In fashion, there are collages that are created all the time to express the mood and color way of an inspiration that the designer is influenced by. Its a great reference to use in regards to the design process. Mood boards are created from a poster to using the tools on Photoshop and Illustrator to be expressed digitally. Digital mood boards are clean and professional especially since technology is what we strongly use today. There are many different ways on how mood boards are expressed by creating images that are tiled that are stacked on top of each other, blended in within each image, and any other way the designer prefers.
Here are examples of some fashion and other kinds of collages below:
I’m having a fashion show April 28th at Westchester Community College. I’m so excited for this years theme that is story telling! The inspiration I chose this year was the poetry by Rumi and the whirling dervish. My designs will be coming soon after I receive photos from the fashion show..!
Mawlānā Jalāl-ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī (Persian: مولانا جلال الدین محمد رومی), also known as Mawlānā Jalāl-ad-Dīn Muhammad Balḫī (Persian: محمد بلخى) or Maulana Jalal al-Din Rumi, but known to the English-speaking world simply as Rumi , was a 13th century Persian (Tādjīk) poet, Islamic jurist, and theologian. Rumi is a descriptive name meaning “the Roman” since he lived most parts of his life in Anatolia which had been part of the Roman Empire until the Seljuq conquest two centuries earlier. He lived most of his life under the Sultanate of Rum, where he produced his works and died in 1273 CE. He was buried in Konya and his shrine became a place of pilgrimage. Following his death, his followers and his son Sultan Walad founded the Mawlawīyah Sufi Order, also known as the order of the Whirling Dervishes, famous for its Sufi dance known as the samā ceremony. Here is further information in regards to Rumi below:
Sufism, is a mystical Islamic belief and practice in which Muslims seek to find the truth of divine love and knowledge through direct personal experience of God. Here is a video to get a brief understanding below:
I used the guest house quote by Rumi to be a part of my inspiration below:
“This being human is a guest house. Every morning is a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor…Welcome and entertain them all. Treat each guest honorably. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.” – Rumi
In 2012, I went to a Q&A at the 92nd St. Y in the city to see Donna Karen with my mom. During that time I had my first job in the fashion industry. Throughout the interview, Donna Karen asked the audience, “How many of you practice yoga?” The majority of the audience raised their hand except my mother and I and some other people. Ever since that day of seeing Donna Karen speak, I’ve been practicing yoga for about over four years. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for myself and working on living a healthy lifestyle. Our next project for digital imaging, we have to create a thirty second commercial for our final project. I’m actually looking forward to it! I wanted to use Donna Karen in my commercial to spread awareness on health and wellness. Yoga will be the main topic in my commercial. I wanted to be consistent within my theme this semester. I feel its about progress not perfection and its about the journey not the destination. Here are some links from Donna Karen’s Q&A back in 2012 below:
