Westchester Community College presents an end of the semester fashion show. This year’s theme for Spring 2016 was based on “storytelling.” The inspiration of my collection was inspired by the poet Rumi and his followers the whirling dervish that belong to a mystical sect of Islam from the Turkish region. Both of my models wore t-shirts that had the following Rumi quote below:
“Wear gratitude like a cloak and it will feed every corner of your life.” – Rumi
“This being human is a guest house.
Every morning is a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
Meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes.
Because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.” – Rumi
I had so much fun creating this years collection and it wasn’t even for school credit lol! I love what I do and you can also tell by the Rumi shirt that I was wearing at the show! All of the information was from my last weekly posting 10 for my digital imaging class. But I wanted to attached some photos from the show backstage below:
